After one short year, St Patrick’s Institute of Education gave me everything I needed to kickstart my career in the legal world, and receiving an award for Highest Academic Achievement gave me the confidence boost I needed to send me on my next journey.
After graduating with my Diploma of Business Administration I began working at Clayton Utz law firm as a graduate legal secretary. Everything I learnt during my Diploma course has formed the foundation I need to utilise and build on in my new role.
The trainers at St Patrick’s were knowledgeable and helpful, and gave us a lot of friendly support and guidance throughout the year. Having a corporate uniform at St Patrick’s and having each day structured a lot like a normal day in the working world really helped me make the transition into the business world.
I think St Patrick’s is a great Institute, with a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and would recommend it to anyone considering studying a Diploma of Business, Management or Business Administration.
There’s a wide variety of accredited and industry-recognised elective units offered within the Diplomas which means you can specialise in your interests, and with such a high graduate employment rate the opportunities are endless with a St Patrick’s education and Diploma.
Over the past ten years as a legal recruiter based in Sydney, I have been privileged to work with many St Patrick’s graduates seeking placements within law firms both in Australia and globally.
Given the outstanding training they receive during their time with St Patrick’s, graduates are highly sought after by mid-to-top tier Australian firms, and now also the global law firms are actively seeking polished and professional Business Administration Diploma graduates.
Beginning their careers at prestigious firms such as these often sets graduates up for many different avenues in their careers, such as Executive Assistant roles and working overseas. I have experience in placing many St Patrick’s graduates into law firms in London and the Middle East.
The guidance and training provided by St Patrick’s adequately prepares students for what is realistically going to be expected of them in the workplace. Expectations of these law firms are high and St Patrick’s consistently provides graduates that not only meet, but in many cases, exceed these expectations.
After finishing my Diploma of Business Administration with St Patrick’s, I was keen to further develop my career potential. I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to continue on to a Bachelor of Business degree through St Patrick's partnership with the University of New England (UNE).
This meant that I was eligible for credits for the first year of the online degree, so I've been able to head straight into second year of the Bachelor of Business and continue working while I study.
I’m now majoring in Marketing and HR Management as part of the Business degree with UNE, and am finding university really enjoyable. I do all my work in my own time and the teachers offer a lot of help as well – they are always only an email away and reply pretty much straight away, even when assignments are due at midnight they are contactable until then! So it's pretty good, I'm really impressed.
I wouldn’t have time for a full-time job at the moment! It’s really great to be able to have this flexibility to learn and support yourself at the same time, and I’m looking forward to moving into a city career in marketing once I’ve completed the degree.
King & Wood Mallesons has worked with St Patrick’s Institute for over 10 years in identifying and selecting high performing candidates to join our Graduate Secretary Program. The calibre of students that the Institute presents each year are of a continually outstanding standard.
The skills and knowledge that these graduates learn during their time at St Patrick's ensure their success in a corporate working environment. They display willingness to continue learning in a practical work environment, and demonstrate good technical and people skills.
By the end of the first year of our Graduate Program, they are developed into very competent Legal Secretaries, supporting Partners and lawyers.
I just wanted to say thank you for the educating year at St Patrick's. I'm surprised at how useful everything I learnt was and how much of it I use in my day-to-day tasks at work.
